I am finding all these amazing designers recently, people I've never heard of. Here are some mouth-watering designs from textile designers Lucienne Day and Robert Stewart, and some biographical information from classictextiles.com.
Lucienne Day's career in design spans 60 years and the freshness and originality of her work ensures that it is still relevant to contemporary interiors. A versatile and influential designer, Lucienne was commissioned by a wide range of companies and extended her very particular vision to carpets, wallpapers, tea towels and ceramics as well as textiles.
Robert Stewart, the Scottish designer and artist, was a contemporary of Lucienne Day and one of the few designers she admired. A prolific worker, Stewart produced paintings, tapestries, graphics, ceramics and murals but it is his textile designs that have been the most influential, in particular those produced by Liberty, Pringle and Donald Brothers in the 1950's.
And now a couple from Finnish design house Marimekko, whose flower print is so ubiquitous it's easy to overlook the fact that they have tons of other amazing designs. These are two of the best, by designers Erja Hirvi and Fujiwo Ishimoto.
