A Show

I actually did some painting last night. I don't know why it's taking me so long to get back into it. One inspiration I have for building up a body of work is Lisa Congdon of Bird in the Hand. She has an art show coming up at Edo Salon on Haight Street (details here, scroll down), and she seems to be making art constantly, despite the fact that she has a full-time job, which is often my excuse for not painting. Lisa aptly demonstrates that that's no excuse.

I'm curious how one goes about getting a show. I suppose actually creating art is the first step, and having some way of showing your art to prospective galleries. A CD with images would be the easiest and cheapest to produce.

I would love to do a show, so I'm putting it out there as a goal.

I'm in Love

...with the new magazine from Martha Stewart, Blueprint. It's a design magazine kind of like Domino, but with less focus on what you can buy, and more on what you can do. It's a bit like Readymade too, but for people who aren't really handy enough for most of the Readymade projects - like me! I adore the design of the magazine, the fonts they use, etc. I wish it was monthly instead of six issues a year.

The whole Martha Stewart lifestyle thing doesn't really appeal to me. I mean, I like the photos and styling in the magazine, but most of it just makes me roll my eyes. A whole drawer for ribbons? Come on! Plus, the whole "summer in the Hamptons" vibe is annoying. The Martha Stewart brand has been minimized on Blueprint though. They are clearly targeting people who find Martha a bit much, but who like art and beautiful design.
