Miss Suzanne
I recently reconnected with a good friend of mine from Savoy days, Suzanne, and she just started a great blog, so go check it out.
Here's what I remember about Suz:
1. Looking sassy in a red dress with a sparkly collar at one of Trish's parties. The mandate was: girls had to reflect light, i.e., wear sparkly clothes, and boys had to absorb light, i.e., black clothes and eyeliner. Trish's parties were often high-concept but they were always rockin'.
2. The self-imposed quarantine as she suffered though the worst bout of adult chicken pox ever. After a week or two, we were allowed to bring her trashy magazines.
3. Telling me that I "only dated men with Hemingway names." (My paramours include Stone, Bull, and Cutter)
4. Announcing "I'm retiring from public life!" at her wedding to Larry Broughton.
5. Always being funny, kind, gracious, and beautiful.
6. Whacking the bejesus out of a pinata at one of her Halloween parties on Castro Street.
7. How she would always call me "Ahh-nnie," because I was fresher from Ireland then, and I pronounced my name like that.
Here's Erica, Suzanne, and me at the Trish party.
